An Explanation Of The Different Poker Hands

For those of you just starting out in poker, you may feel a little lost or overwhelmed by the rules. Once you get the hang of things it’s pretty simple, but until then you may need a little bit of guidance. What you should know is that the bulk of the game is about the hands . Here is an explanation of them all, from worst to best.

First you have the pairs, both one pair and two pair. This just means that you have two of the same card, or two sets of pairs of the same card. When more than one person has one or two pair, the pair with the highest cards wins.

The middle hands are three of a kind, which means that you have three of the same card, a straight, which is when you have five cards that go in sequence, and a flush, which is any set of five cards in one suit. The ranks go in that order.

Last, you have the royals. A full house is a two pair and two of a kind combined, a four of a kind is four of the same card, a straight flush is a sequence of five cards, all with the same suit (like Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5 in clubs), and a royal flush, which is an Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and 10, and beats all.
